Pomona Farmhouse

Design: 6 months
Build: 6 months
Budget: $400K

The clients were avid gardeners keen to bring their plot of land back to its original glory. Jon spent substantial time walking and sitting with the land, getting to know the light, breezes, sight lines and possible locations for the home. The clients gave a ‘no fuss’ direction for their home requirements. Top of the list being the house be small, functional and suitably attired in passive solar design thinking with a long term approach to sustainability. Right up our alley.

The final design is a set of three low lying rectangular spaces joined by breezeways. Covered with a simple pitched roof. Unadorned save for a simple move of extending the ridge at each end to manage direct sun into the interior. A home with simple clean lines and finishes reminiscent of the older homes of the area. Knowing the landscaping was in the good hands of our client the house will settle into its environment beautifully over time.
